WORDS - THE KEY TO THE BEST LIFE
continued...
Praise the Lord -- another opportunity to study the word together concerning WORDS.
Today we will be looking into the following verses. Proverbs 6:2 and Proverbs 18:6.
The first says -- You are SNARED with the WORDS of your mouth, you are TAKEN with the
words of your mouth. WOW -- can you grasp how important your words are to your success
in life? As the saying goes, what you say is what you get. It is impossible to have
positive things happen in your life with negative words coming out of your mouth. The
other scripture is even more pointed than the first.
DEATH and LIFE are in the power of the tongue....You see from this scripture that we
have the choice to speak life to our LIFE or DEATH to our life and it IS all up to us.
Of course, the whole thing hinges on what our HEART contains. For our of the HEART the
mouth speaks. To change what is in our heart we need to study and know the WORD.
Romans 12:2 covers that very well. Be not conformed to this world but be transformed
by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and
perfect will of God. And how do you renew your mind?? By the WORD of God. Read the
WORD daily and when you come upon a directive that you are not doing, vow to change and
do it like the WORD says, putting the WORD into your mind, changing what you thought
before and going in the new direction. This is renewing your mind. All of us have had
wrong ideas and concepts about God and HIS WORD that we have learned from our parents,
the Sunday school teacher, the preacher, whoever, and we need to always go with what the
WORD says about any subject and get rid of the "stinkin' thinkin'" that we have held onto
for years. We must always read the WORD of God with an open mind, ready always to change
what we think to believing what God really says. We need to put into practice what it
says in Colossians 3:1-17. In these verses we see that these are some very pointed words
to consider. SET, MORTIFY, PUT OFF, PUT ON, LET, DO ALL.
These words indicate that it is our responsibility to do it. In short WE are to PUT OFF
the old man with his deeds -- the things he does -- and PUT ON the new man. HOW?? Look
at Verse 10 Paul says -- PUT ON THE NEW MAN which is renewed in knowledge. Verse 16
continues ... LET the WORD of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; ... There is
another passage in the Old Testament, Proverbs 4:7 that says ... Wisdom is the principle
thing; therefore get wisdom and with all your getting get understanding. There is
another scripture that goes right along with these thoughts .. Hosea 4:6a -- God says,
"My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge". ... So, put this all together and you
have God's take on the situation. If we lack knowledge we will be destroyed, but IF we
let the WORD of Christ dwell richly (let there be lots of it) in us we will renew our
minds and that will bring LIFE into our life. Isn't it wonderful that it is up to us?
We can choose what we want our lives to be like.
Deuteronomy 30:19 sums it up this way .. I have set before you life and death, blessing
and cursing: therefore CHOOSE LIFE ... He has given us the choices and he has also given
us the answer -- a no-brainer -- CHOOSE LIFE. I suppose you could compare this to the
statement -- We are the captain of our own destiny. If we choose to live according to
the WORD of God we will be choosing LIFE and BLESSING. So the bottom line is, IT IS UP
TO US. NOBODY, NOT EVEN GOD CAN CHOOSE FOR US. How important it is then, to KNOW and
SPEAK and DO the WORD.
We will leave it there for this time. Next time we will look into being a doer of the
WORD. Until then remember, JESUS LOVES YOU and wants you to have the best in life.
